Available Courses Provide a complete and detailed picture of the principles, the methodologies and the tools available for the development of a Digital Preservation system. The lectures will take into account the state of the art of the international research in this field, and the main results achieved by the European project CASPAR (Please note that this course is in Italian) DigitalPreservationEurope (DPE), Preservation and Long-term Access through Networked Services (Planets), Cultural, Artistic and Scientific knowledge for Preservation, Access and Retrieval (CASPAR) are delighted to announce their 3rd annual Conference taking place in Nice, France, on 28-30 October 2008. This Conference aims to attract digital content owners and managers, bringing them together with the leading experts in digital preservation, to make them aware of the challenges and to present the solutions developed and identified by DPE, Planets and CASPAR, the main preservation projects co-funded by the European Commission. Unique to this conference will be the heavy emphasis on practical demonstrations of preservation solutions that can be adopted and implemented today. Digital content is being created in increasing quantities and the rapid pace of change in software systems puts continued access to digital information at risk. It is of vital importance that we develop and implement solutions now so that we can continue to exploit our valuable intellectual property and digital heritage into the future. Effective preservation of digital assets also brings with it a raft of other benefits such as providing protection and support in litigation and the meeting legislative and regulatory requirements. This seminar is an excellent and informative example of what is involved in the preservation of Cultural and Scientific Data. It presents in detail real case studies, with the aim of giving all attendees a better understanding of the main digital preservation issues and challenges when applied to the Cultural Heritage and Scientific sectors. Through the presentation of practical experiences, supported by demos and examples tailored to the actual user needs, participants will gain a basic knowledge of the OAIS reference model and an understanding of the preservation planning process. In the session for the Cultural Domain, the material will be mainly aimed at practitioners and researchers working with archives, libraries museums, repositories, government departments, legal and commercial sectors with an interest in the topic of preservation of digital objects that are in some way related to the cultural sector. In the session for the Scientific Seminar, the material will be mainly aimed at scientists and researchers from scientific domains such as Physics, Medicine, Biology, Earth Observations, relevant commercial sectors with an interest in the topic of preservation of scientific digital data related to scientific applications.
